PAUL MAKES OTTAWA CONCERT DEBUT - SETLIST
Ottawa Police Services Pipe Band shares stage
Rock and roll royalty touched down in Ottawa Sunday night, with Paul playing his first ever show in the capital.
The former Beatle hit the stage at the Canadian Tire Centre more than an hour after his scheduled start time, but rewarded the faithful with a career-spanning set.
Jessica Dionne brought her grandmother and aunt to the show, along with a special tattoo she’s been sporting since 2010.
“I went with a sign that said ‘Paul, please sign my arm, I’ve already made an appointment for a tattoo,’” she said.“He pulled me up on the stage, signed my arm with a sharpie then I got it tattooed the next day.”

Dionne and her family weren’t the only generation-spanning group at the kick-off for the North American leg of McCartney’s “Out There” tour.
“I really wanted my daughter to experience The Beatles, I’ve never experienced The Beatles myself,” said Rosalie Coburn.“All of my life I’ve always listened to The Beatles and loved Paul McCartney,” said Cindy Adams. “Now my 13-year-old daughter is a fan.”
As an added treat for local fans, McCartney’s set included an appearance from the Ottawa Police Service Pipe Band.
His tour also takes him to Quebec City, Winnipeg and Regina, with a set at Fenway Park in Boston scheduled for Tuesday.

RINGO: PEACE AND LOVE
The GRAMMY Museum, in cooperation with Ringo Starr, will debut a major new exhibition, Ringo: Peace & Love opening on June 12, 2013. This one-of-a-kind, limited-run exhibit will offer visitors an unprecedented in-depth look at all aspects of Starr's musical and creative life - as a musician, artist, actor, and as the man the world knows and loves simply as 'Ringo.' It will also aim to propel Starr's universal message of peace and love.
Ringo: Peace & Love is both the first major exhibit ever dedicated to a drummer and the first to explore the extraordinary career of the 7-time GRAMMY Award® winner. The scope of exhibit spans Ringo's early life growing up in Liverpool, from Raving Texans turned Rory Storm, from The Beatles, to becoming a solo artist and then to the All Starrs with whom he is on tour now - this unique collection brings together diverse artifacts, rare and never before seen photographs, documents, personal letters and footage.
Ringo: Peace & Love will be located on the second floor and will include:
- The drum kit Ringo played on Let It Be, Abbey Road, and The White Album
- The drum kit he played on The Ed Sullivan Show
- Ringo's Sgt Pepper Suit
- The red jacket worn during the filming of The Beatles' rooftop concert
- Personal letters, photographs and documents from the Starkey family and Ringo's days with The Beatles
It will also be an interactive exhibit, where visitors can take a drum lesson with Ringo.
Ringo: Peace & Love will be on display in The GRAMMY Museum's Special Exhibits Gallery.

This new e-book allows readers to not only marvel at Starr's personal photo collection, but to interact with it. Each chapter features introductory videos of the drummer setting up the time and place of the section and almost every page includes a short audio clip of Starr recounting the story behind the picture. The e-book's digital pages are also touch sensitive, allowing readers to expand pictures for a deeper look.
Organized like a scrapbook, the e-book has a hand-crafted feel. Large photographs take up most of the pages and any words are limited to extended captions. The descriptions are written in first person and offer little information, but lots of personality: A photo of Brian Epstein bears the inscription, "There's Brian, looking pensive in a hotel room. You tell me which country, I don't know." A picture of Paul McCartney wearing a beret and puffing on a cigarette dangling from his mouth says, "Paul looks very French."
The enhancements make it feel like Starr is perusing the book right along with you, which makes it well worth the comparatively expensive price of $12.99. (Most e-books range between $.99 – $2.99). A limited print edition of the book is scheduled to be published in December.

RINGO CELEBRATES 73RD BIRTHDAY
Musician, actor, singer, and best known as drummer for The Beatles, Ringo Starr (born Richard Starkey) was born July 7, 1940 in Liverpool, England.
In his early life, he was twice affected by life-threatening illnesses during his childhood which caused him to fall behind in school and spend a lot of time in hospitals. It was in the hospital that nurses encouraged motor stimulation by presenting him with a percussion instrument. This caused Starr to grow increasingly interested in drumming and he even performed in a hospital band.
When he was nineteen, he joined his first band,the Hurricanes, that played around the Liverpool area. He met John Lennon, George Harrison, and Paul McCartney, later his band mates, while on tour. It was during this time he developed his stage name Ringo Starr because he thought it sounded cowboyish.
Starr quit the Hurricanes to join The Beatles, though Beatles producer George Martin thought Starr “was crazy and couldn’t play.” However, Beatles fans had accepted him and even requested that he sing with the group. This secured his position as a core member of the group and he received the same amount of fanmail as the other members.
The Beatles broke up in 1970, however, each member went on to produce their own solo albums, including Starr. Starr even played drums for a couple of John Lennon’s albums. In 1973, he released Ringo, a commercially successful album. He continued to play and tour throughout the decades.
In 2009, Starr reunited with McCartney to perform at Radio City Hall, and he released his fifteenth studio album in 2010. Recently, Starr announced that his All-Starr Band will tour the Pacific Rim in 2013 in New Zealand, Australia, and Japan.
In addition to his musical career, Starr also has been featured in a number of documentaries, has hosted television shows, and even narrated the first two seasons of children’s television series Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends.

JOHN COMES HOME TO LIVERPOOL COLLEGE OF ART
One of LJMU’s most iconic buildings is to be renamed in memory of John Lennon, a former student at the University.
The RIBA-award winning building, which has been known informally as the Art and Design Academy, is home to over 1,000 students in art and design, and will be named the John Lennon Art and Design Building.
The building was completed in 2008 and quickly became one of the city’s landmark locations. Sitting directly in front of the Catholic Cathedral, its serpentine shape and landscaped grounds have become a recognisable feature in the Knowledge Quarter of the city.
The John Lennon Art and Design Building is fittingly located just down the road from where he studied at 68 Hope Street – the University has been using the old building for different academic disciplines but is finally vacating the site this summer.
Yoko Ono was been involved in the development of the building from the start. In 2006, as work was about to commence on site, she was a guest of the University at a profile raising event in New York, hosted by former LJMU Chancellor, Cherie Blair.
In addition to supporting the School of Art and Design and the Academy, Yoko has been instrumental in helping the University establish its John Lennon Imagine Awards to support students who have been in local authority care or who are estranged from their parents.
Yoko Ono comments: “John studied at the University when it was the College of Art and it provided the springboard for so many influential aspects of his life. When the University approached me about naming the building after John I was so touched. I was there when the building was planned and have watched its progress with great interest. It is an enormously fitting tribute to John and our shared connections with LJMU.”
The signage for the building will feature the distinctive self-penned line drawing of John Lennon that has become so well known for its use on the John Lennon Airport and the newly released John Lennon Educational tour bus.
Curtis Reid, President of the LJMU students union comments: “This is just fantastic. John Lennon was a student at this University, he was one of us and he is such an inspiration. Now, future generations of students will know that they are following in his footsteps – it’s really exciting.”
The signage for the building will be put in place over the summer months ready for the start of the new academic year in September.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Nigel Weatherill said: “I’m delighted and personally grateful to Yoko Ono for allowing us to name the building after John Lennon. It’s a tribute not just to John Lennon and all that he achieved but also to Yoko who is so committed to John’s hometown and inspiring the young people who live and study here to achieve their dreams. We are extremely thankful for all the support she has shown the University and our students over the years.”

PAUL: "WINGS WAS DIFFICULT BUT REWARDING”

“Wings was difficult but rewarding. I sometimes wonder if it was crazy after The Beatles to do the entire thing again.We struggled for years with Wings because we decided to try and do it from the ground up instead of coming in at some high level with superstars so we had to try and learn our craft all over again.’’
But Paul, whose band mates included drummer Denny Seiwell and former Moody Blues guitarist Denny Laine,said it was the setbacks that resulted in the “rewarding” camaraderie within Wings.
“So we learned this is a special thing being in a band, which is about understanding each other. So the memory of the Seventies is that yes, it was difficult but the fact it worked was rewarding.’’

YOKO ONO LANZA "ACORN" CON 100 POEMAS ESTE 15 DE JULIO
Casi 50 años después de escribir el libro de arte conceptual "Grapefruit", la escritora, artista y activista por la paz Yoko Ono ha publicado una continuación que espera inspire a la gente a pensar y leer.
"Acorn", un libro con 100 "poemas educativos" y dibujos que será publicado el 15 de julio, retrocede en el tiempo,porque lo escribió originalmente para Internet en la década de los 90.
Cada día, durante 100 días, comunicó una idea diferente a sus lectores para que exploraran. Ahora las ha recopilado en un libro.
"Me gusta la idea porque mucha gente ha dejado de leer libros. Solo usan el ordenador", dijo Ono, que cumplió 80 años este año, en una entrevista.
"Hago esta retrospectiva porque realmente creo que leer un libro es una experiencia totalmente diferente a simplemente acudir a Internet; la forma en que te llega - la información, la comunicación".
Cada enseñanza está acompañada de un dibujos de puntos que da a los lectores "más trabajo mental", dijo Ono. Los poemas y las ilustraciones obligan a los lectores a mirar el mundo que les rodea de un modo diferente.

STELLA MCCARTNEY INSTA A ESCUELAS DE MODA DE ALEMANIA A NO USAR PIEL DE ANIMALES
Stella, conocida defensora de los animales, instó hoy a dos de las principales escuelas de moda de Alemania a informar a sus alumnos sobre la condiciones en las que se produce la piel y el cuero para la creación de prendas de vestir.
En un escrito remitido a la escuela de moda ESMOD de Berlín y a la academia de moda y diseño AMD de Hamburgo con motivo del inicio de la Berlin Fashion Week, McCartney, miembro de PETA (Personas por el Trato Ético de los Animales), animó a los profesores a incluir en sus programas educativos información documental sobre la producción de estos materiales.
Stella sostiene en su escrito que "hoy en día es posible producir abrigos maravillosos, zapatos atractivos y bolsos de moda de cuero artificial o piel de serpiente de imitación sin tocar un pelo a los animales".
Como sabemos, Stella tiene como principio básico no incluir cuero y piel animal en sus colecciones, y además,será la encargada de elegir al ganador del premio "Diseñadores del mañana" el próximo miércoles en el marco de la Berlin Fashion Week. EFE
