JOHN Lennon’s tooth was on display today at a city dentist to raise awareness of oral cancer.
To celebrate Beatles Mania Week and the band’s 50th anniversary, The Liverpool Implant and Aesthetic Dental Spa will be displaying the tooth at the Brunswick Street surgery until tomorrow.
The tooth had been in the family of Lennon’s former housekeeper, Dot Jarlett, after Lennon gave it to her between 1964 and 1968, and suggested she kept it to give to her daughter, citing it might be worth something one day.
It was sold for £19,000 at auction last November and bought by dentist Michael Zuk, who is also an author and collector of celebrity teeth.
It was made into a necklace by Beverley Hills jewellery designer Ari Soffer and it has been valued at £25,000.
Husband and wife Debbie and Marius McGovern, owners of The Liverpool Implant and Aesthetic Dental Spa, said: “Visitors to the Spa will even get to wear John Lennon’s tooth around their neck and have their picture taken as they are screened for oral cancer.
“We are proud to be the only Liverpool dentist involved in this important campaign.”
