PAUL IS MOBBED BY FANS AS HE LEAVES RESTAURANT

So you would think that Paul would be a little jaded when it comes to excessive attention from fans by now. However   looked more than happy to indulge his admirers last night as he left the Cecconi restaurant in Mayfair.

Paul had enjoyed dinner with his wife Nancy Shevell and Bruce Springsteen and his wife Patti Scialfa.
The fans were so excited to see Paul that they made it nearly impossible for him to reach his car.
Paul was gracious as he posed for photos, despite the obvious inconvenience.

Little inconvenient: The 70-year-old had difficulty reaching his car through the fans

Didn't mind: Paul was gracious as he posed for photos, despite the obvious inconvenience

He signed with his hands to say everything was fine as he finally made it to his car.
The singer had certainly had a bothersome night, having been silenced midway through an appearance on stage with Springsteen earlier in the evening.
Bruce’s microphone was cut off at the end of his headlining slot at Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park last night when he broke the sound curfew.
Not the only attraction: The star had enjoyed dinner with his wife Nancy Shevell and Bruce Springsteen and his wife Patti Scialfa

Bruce Springsteen had been playing for more than three hours when he was joined on stage by Paul for an encore.
However, the musical veterans both found their microphones silenced before they could address the crowds as it became clear they had defied the strict curfew by half an hour. Before the subdued ending, the pair had delighted the crowds by collaborating on the final two songs of Springsteen’s 29 song set, I Saw Her Standing There and Twist and Shout.

MIKE MCCARTNEY KICKS OFF ART EXHIBIT

Mike McCartney displayed his sense of humor Thursday at the Butler Institute of American Art Trumbull Branch, both on the walls and in his gallery talk. The photographer talked about his work and told some family stories in a program in conjunction with the photography exhibition ''Mike McCartney's North Highlands,'' which opens today and runs through Sept. 2.The lecture was part of the Thomas Schroth Visiting Artist Series at Kent State University, which is named for the Niles architect who designed the Howland museum. Before the lecture, McCartney said, ''I see why (artist Robert) Rauschenberg liked it. The space is perfect.''

Photographer Mike McCartney, right, and his son Josh listen to a speech Thursday at the Butler Institute of American Art Trumbull Branch.

The photos taken in northernmost Scotland included images of a deer crossing sign that apparently had been shot at by a frustrated hunter, a flock of sheep who think he is going to feed them instead of photograph them and a Scottish church with a sign out front that said, ''This church is prayer conditioned.'' And McCartney punctuated his anecdotes about the pictures with jokes and animal sounds and elaborate gestures.''My philosophy is, I'm a Liverpudlian,'' he said. ''I have been cursed with something called a sense of humor.''
When someone asked McCartney what their father thought of his sons' accomplishments, he said he was very proud, but their lives might have taken a different course if their mother hadn't died when Mike was 12 and Paul was 14. She was determined her sons would grow up to have proper careers. ''It would have been Prime Minister McCartney and Father McCartney,'' he said.
McCartney spent Wednesday at the Butler galleries in Howland and Youngstown, and Thursday he visited Kent State University and attended a private gathering at the home of Cecile ''Cil'' Driame, who funded the Schroth Lecture Series with her late husband through a $1 million gift to the university. McCartney will attend a public opening for the exhibition from 10 a.m. to noon today at the Butler Trumbull Brach, 9350 E. Market St. Admission is free.McCartney encouraged insane ''Ohians'' to come see his ''photees.'' ''The more insane Ohians the better,'' he said. ''This is an insane Liverpudlian's view of northern Scotland.''
In addition to his work as a photographer, which has been shown extensively in the United Kingdom and United States and featured in numerous books and magazines, McCartney also had several British pop hits as a member of the band Scaffold and is the brother of Beatle Paul McCartney.
John Awarski of Cleveland, a family friend who helped arrange the exhibition with the Butler, read a letter before McCartney's talk. ''His work often reflects his own quick wit and sense of humour, and it is fitting he should be exhibiting at the Butler Institute of American Art at this point in his career. He also is a lovely man and I should know - for I am his big brother.'' The letter was signed, ''Paul & the Family."

BEATLES ARE JUST PART OF MERSEYSIDE´S CULTURAL MIX

NEWS that there is a collective coming together to ramp up the Mathew Street area should be welcomed. As should the point that not enough is made of the global interest in the Beatles.

This is perhaps confirmed by a snapshot from the user generated tourist website, tripadvisor.co.uk, which shows the top two local visitor attractions to be John and Paul’s old houses. The Casbah Coffee Club, were it all started, is in third spot.

The Cavern, however, comes in at number eight, just behind the Walker Art Gallery, with the Anglican Cathedral, Anfield and St George’s Hall sandwiched in between at numbers four, five and six. For those interested, the Albert Dock is number nine and the Philharmonic, hall not pub, make up the top ten.

It reflects many such ‘top ten’ sites, but the significant thing is not that we should be flogging more Beatles themed T-shirts and key rings, but recognising that despite their undoubted impact and place in world music, they are just part of the mix that makes up the region’s tourism offer.

Even more significant is that it took the National Trust to save the Lennon and McCartney heritage. But what about George? And, of course, Ringo? And there is the nub of the issue: that folk shouldn’t start singling out one specific aspect of the region to be made its ‘attack brand’.

Marketeers love branding but slogans are what often kill good ideas. Think Big Society. Think that the Fab Four were fab because they were four and did, actually, come from Liverpool with its rich history of imported music through the port. Just as the city’s cultural heritage existed before and exists after them. As with its football.

Liverpool, as any city, is one huge collective. The ambitions and achievements, enterprise and endeavour, alongside the passion and politics of its people is what defines and shapes its character and forges its place in the world.

If people insist on trying to find one so-called attack brand then they need look no further than the museums, galleries and arts venues across the region. Not because of what they contain but how they got there and how they are named.

Walker, Tate, Brindley, Sudley, Williamson, Bluecoat, Lever, Pilkington. Behind every one there is a tale of enterprise and entrepreneurship, including the Beatles or The Beatles Story itself. How the collections came into being. How the wealth was made to acquire and then bequeath them.

If there has to be an ‘attack brand’, then it has to be culture, in general. And that is not about singing and dancing, but about entrepreneurship and social intervention.

Remember 2008? Remember a ‘world in one city’? Remember what really makes up the city-region.

WHICH is as good a line as any to link between two other positive announcements over the past seven days.

One was that The International Business Festival, business’ own Capital of Culture, is coming to Liverpool and Wirral in 2014.

The other was the launch of ExHurbe, a new locally based think tank that will have the elephant that has haunted many a room discussing the Liverpool city region in its sights.

The long heralded brain child of local political legend, and one time Santa Claus lookalike, Peter Kilfoyle, should also be welcomed as both illustrating and forming the cultural mix that makes the city-region distinct.

And on that culturally positive note I am taking a break. Back in September.

NEW BOOK CELEBRATES ABBEY ROAD STUDIOS

It’s one of the most famous recording studios in music history, with people coming from all over the world on a daily basis to walk across the famous intersection depicted on the brilliant album that bears its name. Now, a new book will celebrate the history of London’s Abbey Road Studios.
‘Abbey Road: The Best Studio in the World’ is a history of the EMI studio located at 3 Abbey Road in the St. John’s Wood section of London. Written by Alistair Lawrence, the book chronicles the 80-year history of the studio rare photographs and stories about many of the artists who recorded there.
In addition to the Beatles, who made the building world-famous, the studio has also seen hit records by Pink Floyd, Radiohead, XTC and Oasis and many more recorded inside its hallowed halls. In 2010 the studio was granted Grade II listing by English Heritage in recognition of its contribution to British culture.
The book is published by Bloomsbury, the same people behind the excellent 33 1/3 series, where writers and musicians discuss their favorite albums. Sir George Martin, the producer of the bulk of the Beatles’ work, contributed the book’s foreword. He also signed a limited number of copies available exclusively through Bloomsbury’s website.

We all sleep in a Yellow Submarine! Sub turned into hotel in Liverpool in honour of Beatles hit

It's renowned the world over as the home town of the Fab Four. Now one businessman in Liverpool is offering what is, arguably, the must-stay experience for any self-respecting Beatles fan.
A narrowboat has been converted into a floating hotel - and painted to look like the Yellow Submarine on the cover of the Fab Four's iconic album.
The 80-ft vessel-turned hotel is moored at Liverpool's Albert Dock and is the brainchild of eccentric businessman Alfie Bubbles.

All aboard: The Yellow Submarine hotel boat is the work of eccentric businessman Alfie Bubbles

Far out: The psychedelic interiors of the boat also feature a scooter from the film Quadrophenia in the lounge

Featuring more than a few Mod-cons, an original scooter from the film Quadrophenia sits in the psychedelic lounge, while the three bedrooms - boasting decor inspired by the 1969 album - all come fitted with 3D televisions, computers and wi-fi.
Mr Bubbles admitted seeking out all the fixtures and fittings for the refurbishment - which took nine months - had been a 'massive job'.

The boat was previously owned by Paramount Pictures and used in their thriller The Hunt for the Red October, starring Sean Connery, which was partly filmed in Liverpool waters.
Mr Bubbles, who also runs Hollywood Limousines, hopes to complete a fleet of floating hotels he will design himself - including Titanic and Black Pearl vessels.

I'm Only Sleeping: The refurbishment took nine months and Mr Bubbles admitted finding all the fixtures and fittings had been a 'massive job'

He added: 'It will all be from my crazy head!'
The former freight company owner came up with the idea of a floating hotel last year and his first Joker-themed moat-tel has been a huge success.
The 53 year-old has been buoyed by the popularity of the Batman theme and bookings have been taken from China, the US, Japan and the UK until October.
Rooms are priced at £149 per night, from Monday to Thursday, and £299 and £350 from Friday to Sunday.

PAUL FEATURED IN GRAMMY AWARDS DOCUMENTARY

Paul Featured In Grammy Awards Documentary

A new half hour documentary, featured on their website, gives music fans a behind the scenes view on how the show was put together, and altered in light of Houston’s untimely death.

The documentary also features a touching section where Joe Walsh, Bruce Springsteen and Dave Grohl discuss how it felt to be invited onto the stage to perform with Paul on The Beatles’ medley ‘Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight / The End’ which closes the ‘Abbey Road’ road.

PAUL SUPPORTS HUMANE SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL´S BE CRUELTY-FREE CAMPAING

Paul has given his backing to Humane Society International’s Be Cruelty-Free campaign, the largest-ever global effort to end animal testing for cosmetics worldwide. In many countries, animals such as rabbits, mice and guinea pigs continue to have cosmetic chemicals dripped in their eyes, spread on their sensitive skin or injected into their blood. Such testing is already banned in Europe, and a further ban on the sale of cosmetics that have been newly tested on animals in other parts of the world is due to come into effect in March 2013. Paul has sent a powerful message to consumers across the globe to sign HSI’s Be Cruelty-Free pledge and help end the suffering for good.

Paul said:
“The ugly truth about testing beauty products on animals is that it causes them unimaginable pain and suffering. If every cosmetic tested on rabbits or mice had a photo on the packaging showing these animals with weeping swollen eyes and inflamed skin, I believe everyone would leave cruelty on the shelf and go for the cruelty-free option instead. So, let’s stand up for those defenceless animals by supporting the Humane Society International’s new Be Cruelty-Free global campaign to end animal testing of cosmetics worldwide. Go online, sign the Be Cruelty-Free pledge today and help HSI achieve a world where no animal has to suffer and die for the sake of cosmetics.”

Animal testing for cosmetics such as lipstick, hairspray and moisturiser is banned across the European Union, but is still permitted in most countries around the world. In some regions, including China and parts of South America, such testing is even required by law.

HSI believes that testing cosmetics on animals is both unethical and unnecessary. Cosmetics can easily be produced the cruelty-free way, by using the thousands of existing ingredients for which safety data are already available, combined with advanced non-animal testing methods such as 3D human skin and advanced computer models.

“We’re thrilled to have Sir Paul’s support for our Be Cruelty-Free campaign in Europe because so many consumers are still unaware that animals still suffer for cosmetics testing and that their purchasing choices can make a difference to animals,” said Troy Seidle, director of research & toxicology for HSI. “We agree with Sir Paul that if the truth about animal suffering was on the cosmetics label, ethical consumerism would prevail. So we hope that people across the globe will join Humane Society International and Sir Paul in our effort to turn the whole world cruelty-free.”

The Be Cruelty-Free campaign combines consumer campaigning and political lobbying with corporate and scientific outreach. Be Cruelty-Free has been launched by HSI and its partners in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Europe, India, New Zealand and the United States.

RINGO: "IT´S JUST ANOTHER NUMBER, ISN´T IT?

Ringo Starr turns 72 on Saturday. But another mile marker - 50 years since he became a Beatle - is also being celebrated this year - just not necessarily by Starr. He told CBS News he hasn't thought about the milestone at all.
"It's just another number, isn't it? You know, that's how it is. ... It used to be just two years. Ooh, now five. Now 40," Starr said.
When asked recently in New York if there will be a special celebration, Starr said, "Well, Paul (McCartney) and I will go to the pub, you mean? No."

If he sounds at all sour, that's because Starr has spent a good part of his adult life trying to distance himself from the Fab Four. That journey, however, has never taken him off stage.

He said of performing, "I love being on stage, because one, I'm down there as the big show off. And...I get to play with all these great musicians. So it's a win-win for me."
Starr's band, Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band, started touring in 1989, and featured a rotating cast of musicians, including Joe Walsh and Peter Frampton. Now, 12 incarnations later, Starr says the show's only getting better.
"You know, it used to be two years between each tour," he said. "Now, well, I haven't had a break in a while, so I'm playing more and more, you know? ... I have the energy, I don't know. It's just one of those turning points."
And these days, more young people are attending the shows, Starr said. "We're not overloaded with, you know, people our age," he said. "I check the whole room out. ... I'm checking the room as I'm working. And I'm listening for anyone who says, 'Love you, Ringo.' 'I love you, too.'"
It was on the road where Starr happened upon his latest hobby, creating pop art using computer paint programs. He decided to print and sell the images for charity, and at a recent event, some sold for $12,000.
Starr says the computer art keeps him busy. "It's for a good cause," he said. "There's more in (the art) than I even imagined."
He pointed out a drawing that has a dog and a man hidden inside the picture. Star joked, "It's very deep."
Starr's also embracing another electronic medium - Twitter. He said he wanted to join the revolution. "I'm just seeing what's going down," he said. "I'm doing my part."
Revolution is familiar territory for Starr, whose back-beat helped ignite a musical one five decades ago. But these days, he's just looking for a little peace. Starr said, "I'm not a violent man. I am Mr. Peace and Love, for God sake. I mean that in a loving way."

Ahí, John tocaba junto al grupo The Quarrymen y Paul asistió a verlo.

The Quarrymen :
John Lennon (16 años) cantante-guitarra principal
Pete Shotton -Tabla de lavar
Eric Griffiths- Guitarra
Rod Davis - Banjo
Len Garry - Contrabajo

TIME Paul McCartney: The legend rocks on

To spend time in 20 Forthlin Road, the small brick row house in the Liverpool suburb of Allerton where Paul McCartney lived from age 13 until two years or so after he became a Beatle, is to know both far more about him -- and far less -- than all the records, photographs, books, and interviews can ever convey.
The two-floor house is tiny, and dowdy in that lower-middle-class British way that Americans have a hard time wrapping their heads around -- where are the radiators? where is the shower? -- and for anyone with even a smattering of knowledge about McCartney's history, being in this place, with this particular Northern light shining palely through the parlor window, feels almost embarrassingly intimate, and unbearably poignant.
It was Paul's mother Mary's income as a midwife that allowed her small family -- her husband Jim, a cotton salesman by trade and an amateur musician by avocation; Paul and his younger brother Mike -- to move to this new council house in 1955, a move up in the world after the smaller flat they'd occupied in a tougher neighborhood called Speke, close to the River Mersey. Allerton was the suburbs, or the Northern English version of them, anyway.
Yet the family had occupied the place for only a year when cataclysm struck: on October 31st, 1956, at age 47, Mary McCartney died of breast cancer. Paul was 14; Mike, 12. Jim reeled with grief. "That was the worst thing for me, hearing my dad cry," Paul remembered. "I learnt to put a shell around me at that age." But somehow the three of them braced up and carried on, and music had everything to do with it: Jim once more began to plink on the parlor piano; Paul, of course, picked up the guitar.
A black-and-white photograph taken by a teenaged Mike McCartney hangs on the wall of that parlor: it shows Paul and John Lennon, twentyish, sitting knee to knee, guitar to guitar, composing, in that very spot. A school notebook with scribbled lyrics sits on the floor. The song is "I Saw Her Standing There." A great reckoning in a little room, as another Englishman wrote. And a great mystery as well -- how on earth did all that come from here?
