‘SIGNED’ BEATLES PIC LENNON’S AUNT FORGED 48 YEARS AGO

A FAN treasured a signed photo of the Beatles for almost half a century only to learn the autographs were forged by John Lennon’s AUNT. Mum Christine Procter, 61, was given it after knocking on Lennon’s door in 1964 — when the Fab Four were in the charts with Can’t Buy Me Love.
Her idol was not home but his aunt Mimi Smith — who famously brought up Lennon in Liverpool — invited the cheeky 12-year-old in.

Mimi vanished into the kitchen then presented the thrilled schoolgirl with the snap bearing not only Lennon’s autograph but those of Paul, George and Ringo.
It was only when Christine decided to get it valued that the signed snap, which has taken pride of place on her wall ever since, was exposed as a dud worth less than £20 instead of £2,000.

She is seen aghast on BBC1’s Antiques Roadshow tomorrow as expert Hilary Kay scoffs: “Aunt Mimi went into the pantry and signed it quickly for you! I’m afraid that they are not by the boys.”
Christine, of Ripon, North Yorks, admitted last night: “It was quite a shock. But the photograph will continue to hang on my wall. It still means a lot.” Mischievous Mimi died in 1991 at the age of 88.
