The festival will have a Mersey theme, with "Merseybeat Monday" being the highlight of the weekend. It will see the likes of Gerry and the Pacemakers, Beryl Marsden and The Undertakers take to the stage.
Ian McNabb will perform in a "Tribute to Eric’s" set, as well as the The Merseybeats.
This year, the festival will commemorate the life of George Harrison, who died 10 years ago this year.
As part of the programming on the Derby Square stage, there will be a special celebration of the music of George Harrison.
MOBO UnSung prizewinner Esco Williams will perform in his hometown on the first day of the festivities.
Over half of the performers are from Liverpool, and will be joined by musicians from America, Brazil, Canada, Francce and Mexico.
Last year's event saw 320,000 revellers enjoy the party, and £20 million was brought into the local economy.
Councillor Wendy Simon, Liverpool City Council’s cabinet member for culture and tourism, said: "This year’s festival is the 19th and promises to be one of the best ever.
"We have sponsors for all the stages and it is really encouraging to see the support we are getting from all over the world from local, national and international companies including giving new bands a great opportunity to play at gigs in the city.
"Whatever your musical taste is, whether it is the sounds of the 60’s or the latest bands, you will find it at the festival. There is a very strong Beatles and Merseybeat theme but there will be plenty of other styles of music, making the Mathew Street Music Festival the place to be during the August Bank Holiday."
