PAUL ATTENDS VIP PREMIERE OF "ROCKSHOW"

Paul Attends VIP Premiere of 'Rockshow' At BAFTA

Wednesday night saw Paul attending the VIP Premiere of 'Rockshow' at BAFTA in London with wife Nancy, shown above with 60s fashion icon Twiggy and brother Michael. The film - originally released in 1980 in the US and 1981 in the UK - has been fully restored and is being shown in select cinemas around the world.

Before the screening began Paul gave an short introduction saying,
"Thank you very much friends and family and others. There was supposed to be a film of me introducing this but that's going out tomorrow so this is live me introducing this.

"This is a film of the 1976 concert, that we did with 'Wings in America'. I think the best thing about it for me was that we had been struggling for years with Wings, getting slagged off by the reviewers, because we decided to try and do it from the ground up instead of coming in at some high level with superstars, so we had to try and learn our craft all over again. We thought that by the time we reached 1976 and America on this tour we were pretty good. I hope you will agree.

"It is lovely to see friends, I have actually seen some friends here I haven't seen for an awfully long time, and some that I have seen for quite a long time like Humphrey (Humphrey Ocean the artist who toured with Wings).

"Thank you very much for coming along and I hope you enjoy it!"

PAUL PLANTS A TREE AT THE TXAI RESORT ITACARE IN BAHIA, BRAZIL

Paul chose the heavenly Txai Resort, in Itacare, Bahia, to rest after his shows in Brazil. Paul arrived at the hotel last Tuesday (May 7) and went straight to the piano, placed there especially for him on the veranda of his bungalow. The singer also took the opportunity to have a massage with a specialist from the Shamash Healing Space, one of the country’s more renowned spas.

0paulDuring his stay, Paul got to know the resort’s philanthropic projects, among them the “Txaitaruga,” a project for the conservation and monitoring of 10,000 sea turtles that lay their eggs on the shores of Itacare, and along with his band, he was able to take part in the release of the baby turtles into the sea. The musician also showed great interest in the Companheiros do Txai [Companions of Txai], a project created to help small farmers from the Itacare/Serra Grande APA (Protected Environmental Area) to use the forest resources of the Mata Atlantica rainforest in a sustainable fashion, which are purchased and used by the hotel itself.
To conclude his visit to the hotel, Paul was invited by the President of Txai Resorts, Jose Romeu Ferraz Neto, to plant a seedling of the Juerana tree, a species from the Mata Atlantica rainforest threatened with extinction used by the Pataxó Indians for the making of crafts, that will remain in the garden as a gift in honor of the environment.

PAUL CALLING FOR WORLDWIDE ANIMAL TESTING BAN

Paul has joined a campaign to end cosmetic testing on animals around the world after the practice was banned in Europe.

A new law prohibiting companies from testing beauty products on animals came into action across the European Union in March, following years of campaigning by officials at Cruelty Free International (BUAV).
Now the group has joined forces with the Beatles legend to demand that the ban is rolled out internationally.
McCartney says, "I have supported Cruelty Free International's founding organization, the BUAV over the years with its campaign to end cosmetics testing on animals. I am so proud to be part of this historic event and congratulate Cruelty Free International for succeeding in taking the cruelty out of beauty across the European Union.
"Together we have made a huge difference, yet animals continue to suffer because over 80% of the world still allows cosmetics testing on animals. I am now supporting Cruelty Free International with its campaign to seek a global ban to ensure that animals do not suffer for the sake of beauty anywhere in the world."

PAUL JOINS CRUELTY FREE INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR GLOBAL BAN ON ANIMAL TEST FOR COSMETICS

Paul McCartney appeals to countries across the world to end cosmetics tests on animals

Former Beatle and long-time BUAV supporter Paul McCartney has applauded the work done by the animal organisation to secure the European Union’s animal testing ban for cosmetics, and is backing Cruelty Free International work for a global ban on cosmetics tests on animals.

Paul said: “I have supported Cruelty Free International’s founding organisation, the BUAV over the years with its campaign to end cosmetics testing on animals. I am so proud to be part of this historic event and congratulate Cruelty Free International for succeeding in taking the cruelty out of beauty across the European Union. Together we have made a huge difference, yet animals continue to suffer because over 80% of the world still allows cosmetics testing on animals. I am now supporting Cruelty Free International with its campaign to seek a global ban to ensure that animals do not suffer for the sake of beauty anywhere in the world.”

Paul joins Cruelty Free International celebrity supporters Joss Stone, and Global Ambassadors Peter Dinklage and Ricky Gervais.

In March 2013, the final phase of the European Cosmetics Directive came into force, banning all animal testing from taking place anywhere in the world for cosmetics products to be sold in the EU. A ban on cosmetics animal testing has already been in place in the EU for a number of years. This significant historical milestone was achieved after over twenty years of campaigning by Cruelty Free International’s founding organisation, the BUAV.

Yet, over 80% of countries around the world still allow animal tests for cosmetics, including the U.S., Australia, Korea, Japan and India. Some countries, including China, actually require animal tests before products can be sold there. Paul and Cruelty Free International are joining forces to work for a global ban.

Cruelty Free International Chief Executive, Michelle Thew, stated: “We have been grateful for the support of Sir Paul over the years for our campaign to end cosmetics testing in the EU. We are delighted that he will now join us on our global mission to end the use of animals to test cosmetics worldwide.

"Cruelty Free International works with governments, regulators, companies and partner organisations worldwide and has placed the issue of animal testing on the agenda of many governments for the very first time as part of a global strategy to tackle product testing on animals. With offices in London, Boston and Singapore, Cruelty Free International is applying its determination and vision on a global stage to repeat its success in Europe worldwide.”

PAUL,GEORGE AND RINGO IN TENERIFE -PHOTOS

Fantastic snaps of the mop-tops relaxing by the pool in 1963 taken on friend's camera

Pictures by Astrid Kircherr
It was 50 years ago today... and three of the Fab Four were chilling by the pool in Tenerife.
Only weeks later Beatlemania was in full swing and Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr were well on their way to becoming famous worldwide.
But in May 1963 no one on the Spanish island gave the Beatles a second glance...and when they offered to play a  few tunes there they were turned down.
George and Paul in pal's Austin Healey Sprite

Ringo asked the manager of San Telmo Lido, “Can we play some of our music in your bar?” but the manager said “No” and they ended up lazing by the pool and getting sunburnt instead.
“It was funny when they were refused to play in the bar,” said Klaus Voormann, a German pal the band stayed with after becoming friends in Hamburg. “All they played on holiday was a record player.”
The three Beatles spent 12 days on the island while John Lennon and manager Brian Epstein went to Torremolinos.
These photos, taken on Klaus’s friend Astrid Kirchherr’s camera, are on display at the 50th Anniversary of The Beatles exhibition in Puerto de la Cruz.
Astrid, George and Ringo
Paul, then 20, George, 20, and Ringo, 22, stayed with Klaus at La Montaneta in Puerto de la Cruz. Returning to the island for the 50th anniversary, he spoke about the trip and the Beatles gigs he went to at the Kaiserkeller Club in Hamburg.
Klaus, 75, said: “I will never forget walking into the club and hearing their sound. I had not heard anything like it before. I went back every night and eventually plucked up courage to talk to them. We have been friends ever since.
“They were scruffy boys from Liverpool when I met them. My father had built a villa in the mountain and I was with him for seven months. Paul wrote me a letter and asked if they could visit. It was as simple as that.”
The lads weren’t used to the sun so Ringo wore a matador hat to shade his face and put a plaster on his burnt nose. Paul protected his with card.
The lads on the beach
As well as lounging in the sun and swimming in the lido they walked to the black volcanic sand beach, sat by the seawall and smoked cigarettes and drove around the island in Klaus’s father’s Austin Healey Sprite.
The band had already had a number one hit in the UK with their single From Me To You but their fame hadn’t spread abroad and locals looked baffled when the lads asked if they’d heard of the Beatles.
Soon after the holiday their first album Please Please Me went to number one in the UK charts – and stayed there for the rest of the year.
It was the start of Beatlemania and for the lads from Liverpool life was never the same.
Klaus later moved to London and lived with George and Ringo in their flat while working as a commercial artist. He designed the Beatles’ Revolver album cover and played bass in the band Manfred Mann.
Astrid, 75, whose pictures captured three lads on the brink of stardom, is retired and living in Hamburg. As for George, Ringo and Paul... well, we all know what happened to them.
