PAUL & NIRVANA AGAIN...FOR SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE APPEARANCE

Paul joins Nirvana again for SNL appearance... and raises the bar yet again
More than a few people were skeptical when it was announced that Paul was to perform with Nirvana at Wednesday's 12-12-12 concert... they shouldn't have been.

Paul rejoined the ' 90s icons for a second jam on Saturday night's Saturday Night Live and was on better form than ever as he helmed the fledgling band's performance of Cut Me Some Slack, a delicious marriage of McCartney melody and Nirvana's hard, driven rock.

Kurt Cobain's widow Courtney Love whined, of course, but the idea that her late husband - a massive Beatles fan - would have objected to the union is ludicrous.

What's more, the 70-year-old legend and Nirvana's Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and unofficial member, Pat Smear, have created something special and unique with the new blistering track.

'Cut Me Some Slack' is an apt title for the savvy Paul, who was criticised for his under par performance of Hey Jude at the opening ceremony, as is the grungey change of direction.

He prepared the crowd at Sandy for it's searing tempo by reminding them that he could rock with (and before) the best of them by opening his set with the rip-roaring Helter Skelter from 1968's White Album.

It was mercurial Paul who was the driving force behind the Beatles most eclectic long-player so it's unsurprising he decided to mix things up again after the backlash to his greatest thumbs aloft anthem.

And it's worked; strumming on his cigar box guitar in simple jeans and grey shirt - Macca raised the roof at the New York studios as Dave Grohl worked himself into a sweat with his merciless beat.

Despite Courtney's lack of enthusiasm for the collaboration, the McCartney fitted in to the grunge band with ease even on their first high profile outing.

Dave took his seat behind the drum set while Paul sang, the collaboration will be included on the soundtrack of Grohl's new film 'Sound City Movie.'

During an evening that included performances by Alicia Keys, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones and Kanye West, the duet stood out as a highlight, as the two musical powerhouses joined forces.

McCartney recently admitted that it suddenly dawned on him that he was in the middle of a Nirvana reunion while 'jamming' with some people recently.

'I didn't really know who they were. They are saying how good it is to be back together,' he told The Sun.

'I said, "Whoa? You guys haven't played together for all that time?" And somebody whispered to me, "That's Nirvana. You're Kurt."
